Equivalence and accreditation of studies

The Universidad de Monterrey can recognize, establish equivalences, and accredit studies pursued at institutions which are members of the national educational system or at foreign educational institutions, through the equivalence or validation process of the Mexican Secretariat of Education.

If you need to have your studies accredited, follow these steps:

  1. Come to an interview with the director of the selected academic program. Request the equivalence (courses taken in the country) or accreditation (courses taken abroad).

The director of the academic program is the authority who can deliver an opinion on the courses that may be considered.

If you have not passed the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test yet, you will have to take it and pass it according to the requirements for the program of your choice (we accept statements of results from other institutions, both for the PAA and for the SAT).
  2. Submit the following documents to the director of the academic program you want to pursue:
    • Partial certificate of studies (If you do not have this document, you may request this process with some proof of grades or copy of transcripts) (for equivalencies).*
    • Transcript or official document issued by the educational institution abroad where you took and passed the courses to be accredited.
    • Program of every course for which equivalence or accreditation may be granted, with signature and seal of coordinator of the issuing institution. Grade in courses to be considered most be at least 7.0 or its equivalent in other scales.
  3. Once you know the decision of the program director, submit the following documents to the Center for Information Services and Student Services (CIAA) **:
    • Equivalence and accreditation project form, authorized by director of academic program
    • Authenticated partial certificate of undergraduate studies
    • Application form for equivalence and/or accreditation with the Secretariat of Public Education.
The form is provided at the Center for Information Services and Student Services (CIAA) when you begin the process.
    • Simple power of attorney authorizing the University agent to carry out the process.
The form is provided at the Center for Information Services and Student Services (CIAA) when you begin the process.
  4. Upon submission of the documents, you will receive authorization for payment. You can make payment at the Center for Information Services and Student Services (CIAA) to continue the process.
Applicants who graduated from the International Baccalaureate (IBO) may approach the directors of their academic programs to check the equivalence options that they can be given. For this process, they should submit the following documents:
  • Original program accreditation diploma (including subjects and grades)
  • Equivalence project reviewed and signed by director of academic program
  • Make payment as applicable

* The authenticated partial certificate must be submitted in order to proceed the equivalency process. The transcript or proof of grades will only be considered to prepare the equivalence and accreditation project form authorized by the director of the Academic Program.

** The equivalence or accreditation process must be started and completed during your first semester at the Universidad de Monterrey, otherwise, you will have to take those courses.
