Summer Programs 2017

Summer in Emergency Medicine 2017
(June 26 – July 21)

This Emergency program is designed to know, detect and deal with the acute diseases that are currently considered worldwide as the main causes of death among adult and pediatric patients.

Knowing about the importance of continuous preparation in the medical area, this course will include the American Heart Association Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (BLS, ACLS, and PALS) course completion card.

Program description

The Emergency program will cover the following topics:
  • Cardiopulmonary reanimation
  • Cardiovascular emergencies
  • Trauma emergencies
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Uro Nephrological emergencies
  • Endocrine emergencies
  • Neurological emergencies
  • Pediatric emergencies
  • Initial approach to the poisoned patient
  • Shock state
  • Burns
  • Sepsis

Cost: $2,800 USD

The program includes:
  • Emergency program.
  • Clerkship in public hospitals (active participation from students).
  • AHA course completion card (Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support y Pediatric Cardiovascular Life Support).
  • Acommodation in UDEM Residence Halls (double room).
  • 2 meals / 5 days a week.

Spanish and Mexican Culture Total Immersion
(July 3 - 28)

UDEM invites you to its Spanish and Mexican Culture Total Immersion program, in which participants will not only improve and practice their Spanish proficiency, but will live different cultures and unique lifestyles.

Cost: $2,000 USD

The program includes:
  • 2 academic courses, 3US credits each.
  • Spanish as a Foreign Language.
  • Life and Culture in Mexico.
  • Acommodation in UDEM Residence Halls (double room).
  • 2 meals / 5 days a week.
  • Cultural visits.
  • Community service activities.

Internships

Discover how to do business in Mexico!

UDEM offers its students the opportunity of using their skills in order to gain professional experience.

  • On – campus internships: 4 weeks minimum
  • Off – campus internships: 5 months minimum

Spanish is desirable, but not mandatory.
Placement fee: $150 USD

Opportunities for paid internships are uncommon; please confirm your preference to andrea.garza@udem.edu.mx.


Clinical Rotations

Universidad de Monterrey offers clinical experience for med students.

Options:
  • Private hospital: Students work under the supervision of the attending physician with no direct contact with patients.

    Placement fee: $150 USD
  • Public hospital: Students work under the supervision of the attending physician, and have direct contact with patients.

    Placement fee: Depends on the number of weeks, and specialties (4 weeks on Pediatrics = $220 USD).

    Placements are given for a 4-week period minimum.
