    Regulations for electing members to the University Senate

    1. According to the University Senate Regulations, the following members must be elected by their peers to serve for two-year periods:
      • Category A: Two directors from the University Community Department
      • Category B: Two deans from the Higher Education Academic Division 
      • Category C: One academic program director at the undergraduate level from each academic division 
      • Category D: One director from the Graduate Program 
      • Category E: One academic department director at the undergraduate level from each academic division 
      • Category F: One pre-university unit dean 
      • Category G: Two pre-university academy directors 
      • Category H: Three full-time professors at the undergraduate and graduate levels from each university academic division 
      • Category I: Four full-time professors at the pre-university level 
      • Category J: Two full-time professors from the formative area
    2. The election and the beginning of the bi-annual periods will occur in even years, beginning in 2006. 
    3. In June of each electoral year, the plenary of the Senate will establish an Electoral Commission responsible for organizing the election of the above listed members. Upon the completion of the process, the Electoral Commission will be dissolved. 
    4. Starting in August, the Electoral Commission will have the following duties, according to a work program previously approved by the plenary of the Senate: 
      • Publish the convocation 
      • Request the list of voters and eligible members for each category from the Human Resources Director's Office 
      • Prepare and make available to all the interested parties the lists of voters and eligible members for each category 
      • Receive the nominations of candidates either from their peers or by self-nomination 
      • Prepare the electoral materials, which consist of ballots and ballot boxes 
      • Count the votes and write up the minutes containing the outcome from each voting assembly 
      • Report the minutes to the Assembly of the Senate Council Presidents
    5. Categories A, B, C, E, G, H, I and J will have multiple choice voting. Each voter will have a number of votes equal to the number of positions corresponding to the category being elected and the voter will distribute the votes at will among the candidates; no more than one vote for the same person will be allowed. 
    6. All candidates will be listed in decreasing order in the corresponding vote-counting minutes, according to the number of votes they obtained. In case of a draw, the members of the category will participate in a second round of voting between the tied candidates. 
    7. In the event of a permanent absence of any of the board members during the period for which they were elected, the person to substitute will be designated according to the order presented in said lists. 
    8. Any unforeseen occurrence will be submitted to the Assembly of the Senate Council Presidents to be resolved.

     

    The norms for electing the members to the University Senate were approved by the president of the university on Monday, January 29th, 2007, and came into force the following day.
