The UDEM is known for its high academic rigor and faculty of excellence. See the faculty directory. [+]
Our firm principles and set purposes encourage the integral education of our students.
OUR PRINCIPLES
In its fundamental principles, the UDEM prescribes to a Christian humanism inspired by the Catholic Church. This humanism focuses on individual and collective cultivation and civilization. It is open to people of all creeds and backgrounds and rejects all forms of unjust privilege or discrimination. Finally, it maintains that human transcendence is achieved through the service of others.
"The human being is the source, center and purpose of culture, understood as a process of human cultivation and civilization."
At the Universidad de Monterrey, we believe that humans are free and transcendent beings, and the shapers of their own history.
"The University is open to the diversity of people and cultures."
We live this openness in a harmonious manner by respecting others and rejecting any form of unjust privilege or discrimination.
"Humans only achieve self-fulfillment by serving other humans."
We realize that we will only fulfill our mission by engendering in our students an authentic readiness to serve their community.
OUR PURPOSES
Our purposes, as a Christian-inspired institution, are: preservation of culture, promotion of research, academic excellence, and the extension of these benefits throughout the community.
- Preservation of culture: culture is the primary legacy passed on to us by the collective human history of achievement.
- Research: because the cultural legacy we have received can only be augmented by research.
- Teaching: because the preservation and augmentation of our culture legacy only makes sense when it is transmitted to new generations.
- Community extension: because the work of the university only reaches its full meaning when all members of the community have access to the culture taught in its classrooms.
OUR OBJECTIVES
The UDEM will promote the attitudes and will teach the knowledge required to shape and train individuals to practice their professions by seeking their integral humane education. Along with the specific academic training, the UDEM strive to foster social responsibility and a feeling for the transcendent nature of life.
Aware of the talent, experience, and maturity of each of its members, the UDEM will look forward to becoming, both in its human relations and in its institutional structure, a university community where the committed involvement of all its members becomes a synergetic reality.
As the UDEM believes that it will only reach its fullness by serving others, it focuses on authentic community service in all its policies and activities.
OUR SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Preservation of Culture
- Our primary means of preserving and augmenting culture is through humanistic university education.
- We also design, promote, and support centers dedicated to the preservation of our cultural and human heritage.
- Furthermore, we encourage university and community activities focused on cultural preservation.
Research - We promote research, both theoretical and applied. We believe that theoretical research, in its search for the truth and desire to expand culture, helps to explain our reality and to suggest solutions to the challenges that face us.
- We encourage our teachers and students to form close relationships of interdependence during the teaching-learning and research processes.
Teaching
- We regard the students as the driving force in teaching-learning process. Our teachers guide the students and promote creativity, academic excellence, objectivity, intellectual honesty, critical judgment, and responsible freedom.
- We demand high ethical and scientific quality from our teachers, while promoting their personal fulfillment and ongoing education.
- All of our degree programs emphasize strict research methods and study of the human sciences as fundamental elements of professional education.
Community Extension
- We strive to extend the benefits of university life to the entire community by creating programs and undertaking activities that promote social, cultural, and artistic development of the community.
- We offer academic programs that, even though they do not always grant degrees, facilitate personal improvement and ongoing professional training.
