The UDEM's bachelor of law program offers an excellent learning experience that includes a well-balanced academic program consisting of more than 15 practical subjects and the Catedra Laboris, taught by the most renowned national and international professionals in the field of law: Dr. Cristian Larroumet, International Arbitrator; Dr. Jose Ramon Cossio-Diaz, Honorable Justice of the Supreme Court; and Dr. Carlos de la Garza, graduate from the first generation of the law program. In addition, all the students face real legal situations in the Juridical Competences Hall and take two semesters of professional internship.

Objective

To shape professionals who will be agents of positive change in their community by solving legal problems with a sense of responsibility, honesty, and ethics. We seek to provide an integral education in the main juridical areas with a special orientation toward international business law and corporate legal management.

Enrollment Profile

The students who enroll in this program must feel empathy for underprivileged people and be interested in looking after their wellbeing. They should also excel in critical thought and the promotion of civic participation.

Graduation Profile

Upon completion of their undergraduate degree, the students will have the following knowledge, skills, and attitudes:

Knowledge of: 

  • International situations. 
  • The basis and orientation of the various juridical disciplines. 
  • The structure of foreign legal systems. 
  • The enactment and application of legal procedures. 
  • Alternative methods of conflict resolution. 
  • Integration of the different tendencies of juridical thought. 
  • Legal control mechanisms. 
  • The mechanisms implemented to protect the constitutional principles.

Each UDEM curriculum is made up of two blocks of courses:

  • Professional studies, these are the specialized, professional courses that make each degree plan unique.
  • General studies, these are the courses that provide a general and interdisciplinary overview.

A bachelor of law (LDE) is prepared to work successfully in various fields when graduating from the UDEM:

Private sector: 

  • As a director, litigator, or legal counselor in a law office or firm and in the legal department of commercial or industrial companies, service companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), credit institutions, brokerage firms, financial institutions, insurance companies, among others. 
  • As an arbitrator, mediator, or negotiator in procedures of alternative conflict resolution.
    In this sector there are multiple areas of specialization, such as: banking and securities law, civil law, corporate law, antitrust law, industrial and intellectual property law, environmental law, financial law, tax law, labor law, mercantile law, immigration law, criminal law, telecommunications law, foreign investment law, among others.

Educational Sector: 

  • As a director, professor, or researcher in universities and higher-education institutions.
    Public Sector.
  • As a justice of the Supreme Court, magistrate, judge, or any other position in the state or federal judicial system. 
  • As an elected official or an advisor in office of an elected official in the legislative branch of government or in juridical or consulting offices of the executive branch of government. 
  • As certified public officer (a notary public or commercial notary).
