The Dental Surgeon career develops a profound mastership of Stomatology and professional medical skills in the students in order for them to provide integral and comprehensive medical care to their patients.
In addition, it offers innovative Odontological Medicine, such as Genomic Medicine or topics of cellular tissue culture for new therapy development.
Objective
Shape professionals with suitable knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities who are skilled in serving society by fulfilling its sanitation needs, both in the stages of preventative measures and in the stages of diagnosis and treatment, in an ethical and efficient manner. The oral and dental health professionals must appreciate the need for their professional development and their ongoing formation throughout their lives. They must be capable of efficiently using progress in science and technology, and understanding the central role of patients in therapeutic decision-making.
Help students to acquire the necessary clinical knowledge and competence so that, upon graduation, they will be able to carry out a general odontological practice in an independent manner. They must also be able to recognize their limitations and know how to look for advice or refer the patient to other professionals whenever a situation exceeds their field of competency.
Promote the acquisition of professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior that will facilitate an effective and adequate interaction with patients, colleagues, and other health care professionals.
Promote research as curricular support, which allows the development of consistent critical thought, and enables students to permanently question themselves both about their daily work and about the most transcendental breakthroughs in science.

Graduation Profile
Upon completion of their undergraduate degree, the students will have acquired the following knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of:
- How to identify the symptoms of an illness, based on an orderly, methodical, and comprehensive clinical analysis.
- How to provide an adequate and timely diagnosis and treatment.
- How to apply preventive measures in individual and community cases.
- How to detect the clinical situations of patients who need to be referred to other health professionals in a timely manner, as well as accepting their professional limitations ethically.
- How to promote the critical analysis of science, and the ability for innovation and for scientific promotion.
- How to be up-to-date, both clinically and academically, in a consistent manner, and remain up-to-date on therapeutic advances.
- How to identify the Country's public health needs.
Skills for:
- Being orderly, methodical, accomplished, and respectful of the different clinical and welfare activities.
- Identifying the special health care needs of each patient, as well as their behavioral and socio-cultural components, in order to formulate an accurate diagnosis.
- Solving the health problems of their patients and their community, in accordance with the available resources.
- Stimulating recognition and acceptance regarding the commitment to working with the best interest of the patients, at any given time and according to the health codes in force.
- The application of computer science as a useful tool for reference and administrative support.
- Applying the necessary and timely preventive measures for controlling illnesses.
- Mastering one or more foreign languages.

The Dental Surgeons (MCD) are formed with an approach towards professional competency, enabling them to perform in any scenario of Stomatological Medicine, and to be aware of the breakthroughs in their profession.
An MCD's field of work includes the clinical care of their patients, either in private practice or in public or private institutions, in both urban and rural scenarios, with scientific clinical support.
The graduates will be able to establish their own practice or work centers, with the possibility of managing them as companies. They will also be able to perform in academic and educational fields, in research centers, and as associates in companies commercializing products related to their area of study.
