We offer the best clinical environment for the Doctor of Medicine because it includes public medicine in Mexico's IMSS and Public Secretariat hospitals as well as in private hospitals, among which include, Muguerza, Conchita and Santa Engracia and 44 hospitals in the United States, as the result of an agreement made with Christus Health.

Objective

To shape professionals with a general mastery of medicine who are culturally educated and hold an ample vision of the medical profession in order to practice medicine with a high level of competency, commitment and honesty. To efficiently prepare students to apply medical knowledge in a rigorous and scientific manner when treating a group of illnesses and in the rehabilitation of patients from the after-effects of said illnesses. They will also be able to solve individual and community health situations in an effective and humanitarian manner.

Students will learn to: Use the knowledge of basic sciences and clinical sciences to prepare diagnoses, suggest medical treatments, issue prognoses and apply preventive measures in illnesses which belong to the general medical domain.

For this, students will make use of the techniques taught in classes and self-learning activities in order to build a basic knowledge that will be complemented with the preparation of clinical records in real scenarios, medical rotations and on-duty shifts throughout the different medical services, and in their participation in medical campaigns and brigades, workshops, symposiums and congresses.

The purpose is to enable students to practice excellent basic medical care, with skills to identify situations requiring a more specialized medical approach. Likewise, they must detail the measures of preventive medicine and positively influence the community with their application.

Enrollment Profile

The students who enroll in this career must have aptitudes and an interest for the area of natural sciences; ability for self-directed and team work; willingness for constant self-improvement; a capability for permanent self-study and a sense of commitment and solidarity.

Graduation Profile

Upon completion of their undergraduate degree, the students will have the following knowledge, skills, and attitudes:

Knowledge on: 

  • How to identify symptoms of an abnormality, based on their mastery of medical events, as well as of human, biological, and psychological characteristics. 
  • How to detect signs and symptoms of the most frequent diseases by applying basic diagnosis techniques and procedures. 
  • How to apply preventive measures, timely treatment, prognoses and rehabilitation in individual and community cases. 
  • How to timely detect cases which need to be referred; accepting their personal limitations. 
  • How to apply the scientific method and categorize the health needs of their community and country.

Skills for: 

  • Recording patient information and following-up on the treatment. 
  • Interpret the patient's emotional and socio-cultural elements so as to include them in the diagnosis. 
  • Handling the health of patients and their communities in an optimum manner in accordance to the available resources. 
  • Handling information concepts that will be useful in the search for and the compilation of bibliographic material and in the administrative processes of their professional work. 
  • Applying didactic procedures to develop the health education of the community and the application of timely preventive measures. 
  • Mastering English as a second language, enabling them to keep updated in the scientific field and to establish communication with foreign doctors.

Attitudes: 

  • Community service. 
  • To be ethical in the practice of their profession. 
  • Responsibility for the patients¿ medical care. 
  • Continuous professional development through permanent updating. 
  • Leadership in the community in order to have an influence on the morbid-mortality problems.

Doctors of Medicine are likely to study a specialization. Their preparation enables them to successfully take the national or international exams, achieve their objective and carry out their professional practice in Mexico or abroad.
