Spanish and Mexican Culture Program 2010

From June 21 to July 23 (5 week-program)

    

Are you eager to learn Spanish and visit some of the most emblematic cities in Mexico?

Universidad de Monterrey and Universidad Marista de Merida invite you to their joint Spanish and Mexican Culture Total Immersion Summer Program.

Courses:
(weeks 1-2 in Monterrey and 4-5 in Merida, 3US credits each)

  • Spanish as a Foreign Language (Participants will be placed according to a test upon arrival)
  • Life and Culture in Mexico
  •  

    Community Service:
    (week 3)

    During the program, participants will work in developing their leadership competencies, such as emotional intelligence, interpersonal relations, team work, communication, and problem solving while working on helping projects and creating long-lasting links with the community.

    Cultural visits:

    As part of their culture course, participants will visit several points of interest such as:

    Monterrey: Mexican History Museum, Steel Museum (Horno 3), Downtown and St. Lucia Riverwalk, Cola de Caballo waterfall, Villa de Santiago and Los Cavazos.

    Merida: Chichen Itza (one of the seven new wonders of the world), the Three Cenotes (natural deposits of spring water), Anthropological Museum of Merida, and Progreso Beach.

    Hospitality/ Tourism in Mexico 2010

    June 28 to July 23

    A privileged location crowned with beautiful natural sceneries, varied gastronomy, and unique folklore: all those make Mexico a tourist paradise. During this four-week program, students will be able to learn about this country by enrolling in two tourism courses plus visiting and learning the "know how" of one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean: Cancun.

    Course description:

    Students will register two courses, 3US credits each:

    • Marketing for Tourist Services
    • National Tourist Patrimony

    Activities:

    During the third week of classes, students will travel to Cancun, Quintana Roo, to attend a series of conferences and site visits that will reinforce their learning.

            

    Among the activities taking place in Cancun are:

  • Welcome dinner in one of Cancun's best restaurants
  • Conference on Tourist Destinations Management
  • Conference on Promotional Strategies for a Tourist Destination: The Case of Cancun
  • Descriptive tour of Cancun's Hotel Zone
  • Visit to the Riviera Maya: Tulum, Xel-Ha, Playa del Carmen
  • Conference on New Gastronomic Trends
  • Visit to a restaurant where students will observe how to design and decorate dishes

    Global Institute for Leadership and Civic Engagement

    Junio 6 - 20, 2010

    The Global Leadership Program in Monterrey is a comprehensive two-week program that includes: an academic course, cultural activities, and participation in community service projects. The program is open to university students from around the world. We are happy to be hosting this program at UDEM and and its Leadership and Challenge Center ¡Lánzate!

    Course description:
    Students will register one academic course (3 US credits):

    • Leadership and Organizational Change

    This course explores the dynamic environment modern-day leaders must navigate and the role of transformational leadership. The course will train students to apply the theories and tactics of transformational leadership to successfully achieve a change project in whatever organization, business, or community project the student is in involved in. The course is complemented by experiential activities and guest speakers.

     

    Activities:
    Among the activities that will take place during the program, are the following:

    • 3 day camping trip to Potrero Redondo 
    • 2 programs at the Leadership and Challenge Center ¡Lánzate! 
    • Community service activities

    Cost:
    $875 USD which includes:

    Tuition, accommodation at UDEM Residence Halls (double rooms), site visits, workshops, and community service projects. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a spot in the program. Please note that this cost does not include airfare.
