Spanish and Mexican Culture Total Immersion Program
From June 20 to July 22 (5 week-program)
Are you eager to learn Spanish and visit some of the most emblematic cities in Mexico? Universidad de Monterrey and Universidad Marista de Merida invite you to their joint Spanish and Mexican Culture Total Immersion Summer Program.
Program Description:
Students will enroll in two academic courses (3US credits each):
- Spanish as a Foreign Language (Participants will be placed according to a test upon arrival)
- Life and Culture in Mexico
During weeks 1-3 students will be enrolled at Universidad de Monterrey and attend their courses during the morning. During the afternoon, participants will live the social and economic reality of some of the most needed parts of the metropolitan area of Monterrey by working on community service projects.
During weeks 4 -5 students will attend classes at Universidad Marista de Merida, where they will finish the program.
| Cultural visits: As part of their culture course, participants will visit several points of interest such as: Monterrey: Mexican History Museum, Steel Museum (Horno 3), Downtown and St. Lucia Riverwalk, Cola de Caballo waterfall, Villa de Santiago and Los Cavazos. Merida: Chichen Itza (one of the seven new wonders of the world), the Three Cenotes (natural deposits of spring water), Anthropological Museum of Merida, and Progreso Beach. |
- Exchange students: $1,960 USD
- Independent students (direct enrolled): $2,960 USD

Tourism in Mexico
July 10 - August 5, 2011 (4 week program)
A privileged location crowned with beautiful natural sceneries, varied gastronomy, and unique folklore: all those make Mexico a tourist paradise. During this four-week program, students will be able to learn about this country by enrolling in one tourism courses plus visiting and learning the "know how" of one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean: Cancun.

| Activities: During the final week of classes, students will travel to Cancun, Quintana Roo, to attend a series of conferences and site visits that will reinforce their learning. Among the conferences students will follow are:

Business in Mexico
May 30 - June 24, 2011 (4 week program)
Held for four weeks, this summer program will give students an overview of how business in handled in Mexico and the world.
Program description:
Students will register two academic courses (3 US credits each):
- International Marketing
- International Business
As part of this program, students will visit different companies in Monterrey to support their class learning.
Cost: $1,750 USD
Cost includes two academic courses (3 US credits each), housing at UDEM Residence Halls (double room), meals (2 / 5 days a week), local transportation to cultural and business sites.
Sculpting and Design
June 20 - July 15, 2011 (4 week program)
During this four ¿ week program, students will enroll in a Sculpting Workshop with Jorge Elizondo, renown sculptor of the region, in his workshop located in La Huasteca Canyon, in Monterrey. Participants will learn the techniques for working on black marble and will keep the piece produced.
Students will also travel to Zacatecas for a Silver Jewelry Workshop. Participants will learn the various techniques for handling silver, and will also keep the piece they work on.
Cost: $2,850 USD
Cost includes: Sculpting and Design Workshops, working materials, housing in Monterrey and Zacatecas, transportation to and from Zacatecas, meals in Monterrey.
Contemporary Mexico: Literature, Art, Film, and Music
June 20 - July 22, 2011 (5-week program)
During this five-week program, students will enroll in two courses (Mexican Studies and International Seminar on Humanities), 3 US credits each, that will show them four different aspects of XXth century Mexico:
Literature: including Mexico's greatest writers, such as Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, Ramon Lopez Velarde, and Carlos Monsivais.
Art: including Mexico's most prolific artists, such as Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
Film: including Mexico's golden years in the film industry with directors such as Gabriel Figueroa, Arturo Ripstein, Gabriel Retes, and Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu.
Music: including a comprehensive approach of Mexican music, with ethnic music (folklore), classical music, and popular music such as mariachi and boleros.
