Announcement | UDEM Spring 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony

San Pedro Garza García, Monday May 18, 2020

Dear UDEM community:

It has been two months since we started staying home and following social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and we can only feel admiration and pride over your determination and effort to cope with this atypical situation while giving the best of yourselves in every class, activity, and project.

Today, we are very pleased to witness you heading into the last stretch of this semester, a semester that has been full of challenges and achievements but which has also brought the UDEM community together, even if over a distance. Likewise, we are moved to see that not even the health contingency has managed to put a halt to the academic path that our graduating students set off on several years ago and which they are about to complete in the upcoming days.

Therefore, we do not want this great cause for celebration to go unnoticed: our Spring 2020 graduating class! Granted, at the moment we cannot meet in person. However, this should be no impediment to celebrate from home in the company of your families through the traditional event Siempre UDEM and a virtual UDEM Commencement for our undergraduate and graduate level graduating students.

Celebrating these virtual events does not in any way replace the corresponding in-person events that we are looking forward to holding in the near future once the health authorities allow us to congregate our graduating students and their families to celebrate the culmination of their studies and of this stage of university life. All of our Spring 2020 undergraduate and graduate level graduating students will be soon summoned to celebrate in person.

Dear graduating class and UDEM Families, these virtual ceremonies will be especially planned to allow you to celebrate from home the completion of your studies and the beginning of a new stage from home. We would like to reiterate that these celebrations are not intended to replace your in-person experience of your undergraduate or graduate level graduation, or the awarding of your diploma, receiving your diploma at a future date.

Moreover, we know what the important bell ringing act represents to our UDEM Community. Rest assured that our Vox Veritatis bell will be at the ready for our graduating students from the undergraduate and graduate levels who are looking forward to participating in this graduation tradition. In the upcoming months, we will propose a schedule for you to come live this experience with the people in your closest family circle, complying with the recommendations from the health authorities.

Even though we acknowledge the challenges that this contingency has entailed and the limitations of the virtual world, we are aware of the meaning of a graduation and, after analyzing different alternatives, we do not want this momentous moment for you and your families to go unnoticed, just as we stated in the announcement dated March 27, 2020. Therefore, we want you to start celebrating now the completion of your studies and also the fact that you will soon become UDEM graduates! We kindly ask you to be on the lookout at home because you will receive a gift that will give your graduation experience at home UDEM’s distinctive touch and will reaffirm that we are together despite the distance.

We kindly request that you keep monitoring your institutional email address and the website udem.edu.mx/commencementvirtual ecause it will be through these media that we will share with you all relevant information for you to participate in these events. Additionally, we would also like to ask you to follow our social media and the University’s website, specifically the website udem.edu.mx/coronavirus, where we share relevant information on this contingency and on how to cope with it from home.

We are looking forward to having the opportunity to greet you in person at the UDEM Campus when the health contingency ends. We send you a big hug and hope you and your loved ones are doing well. Let’s continue to inspire the best version of us! God bless us.

Warm wishes,

Mario Páez González
