Lilia Elida García Rodríguez

Vice President for Health Sciences

Dr. Lilia García holds a Medical Degree (M.D.) from the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM). She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Christus Muguerza Hospital, accredited by UDEM, and later earned a subspecialty in Pediatric Oncology at the Federico Gómez Children’s Hospital of Mexico and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She also holds a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Services Administration from UDEM, a fellowship in Pediatric Bioethics from Children’s Mercy Hospital, and advanced studies in Global Health at Harvard University. She is certified by the Mexican Board of Pediatrics and the Mexican Board of Oncology.


She is the author and co-author of several scientific publications and, since 2019, has served as a professor and researcher at UDEM. Her professional experience also includes the public sector, where she served as Undersecretary of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health of Nuevo León from 2021 to 2023.


Since May 2023, she has been Vice President for Health Sciences at UDEM, leading the UDEM Health ecosystem, which brings together the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology, Allied Health Sciences, and Nursing, as well as the VICSA Research Directorate, the Psychological Care Center (CAPSI), and the Directorate of Health Care Centers. Under her leadership, this ecosystem advances the mission of becoming a global leader in health sciences education that inspires the best version of communities, through a strategy built on three pillars: academic excellence; research and innovation that generate and transfer knowledge; and health centers that provide accessible, human-centered care aligned with community needs.


In the field of pediatric oncology, she has held leadership roles, including Latin America Representative of the Young Investigators of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP), and Coordinator of Women in Oncology at the Mexican Society of Oncology (SMEO). She is an active member of the Children’s Oncology Group, the Mexican Association of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (AMOHP), and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO). She is also the founder of World Child Cancer México, an international nonprofit organization that supports children with cancer.
 

Dr. García actively contributes to UDEM’s governance bodies, including the DEIS Governing Council, the Board of the School of Nursing, the CETIA Advisory Council, the Honor Council, and the VICSA Advisory Committee, as well as the Digital Transformation Advisory Committee and the Communication and Marketing Committee.
 

At the state and national levels, she participates in several strategic health and wellness councils and committees. Notably, she chairs the Health Commission of the Council of Nuevo León. She is also a member of the Citizen Participation Council of the State Women’s Institute, the ConParticipación Council, the Well-being Executive Council, the Nuevo León Care Ecosystem Council, the “Cómo Vamos Nuevo León” Council, the Nurturing Environments Council, and the Hospital Conchita (Christus Muguerza) Council. Additionally, she collaborates in professional and academic bodies such as the Council of the Mexican Association of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (AMOHP), the Advisory Council of the College of Physicians of Nuevo León, and the Advisory Council of the newspaper El Norte, promoting initiatives that strengthen public policy and improve health care quality.
