Announcement | UDEM/COVID Comprehensive Support Program

San Pedro Garza García, April 21, 2020

Dear UDEM Community:

We hope that you are in good health with your loved ones. We appreciate the support and solidarity shown during this contingency period. I would like to contact you to communicate the measures implemented to fully support the families of our students and collaborators.

Since its foundation more than 50 years ago, Universidad de Monterrey has been a non-profit institution that offers excellence education with values, based on its principles of Humanism, Openness and Service.

Today, 1 out of 2 UDEM students has some type of financial aid. Furthermore, the 2 units of the Santa Catarina Polytechnic High School function as a social and educational project led by UDEM to provide quality highschool education to less fortunate young people. Likewise, through the Centers for Health and Development, we contribute to the well-being of our community.

To maintain our goal of providing quality education, we have spared no additional expense from online teaching and have invested in equipment, software, licenses, networking, system maintenance and training to get teachers to deliver their courses with everything that is necessary, and for our students to continue their studies, without the need to expose themselves and safeguard their integrity by staying at home. We have kept the payroll of our teachers and collaborators intact, we have also ensured that the payment to the support and cleaning staff is maintained.

The health crisis derived from the pandemic is such that we are already experiencing financial, labor and social repercussions in our environment. We are implementing some measures and generating support with the intention that no UDEM student with skills and commitment, is left without studying. We have created the UDEM/COVID Comprehensive Support Program, which consists of financial considerations, a financial support fund and health care.

I. Financial considerations

  • There will be no tuition increases for the remainder of 2020.
  • UDEM scholarships and educational credits, in effect in the Spring 2020 semester, will remain unchanged for the Fall 2020 semester.
  • The commission for administrative handling for credit card payments is eliminated.
  • The penalty for late payment of the installments of April and May is eliminated.
  • A six-month interest-free scheme is offered for the payment of remaining balances, applicable with most credit cards.
  • A partial discount will be made for the payment of residences and parking pensions for the time the campus remains closed.

II. Economic support fund

We have carried out an exhaustive review of our operating expenses, implementing a strict control of our budget and rethinking some investments for this and the coming years. These actions, in conjunction to the generosity of our benefactors and other initiatives, have allowed us to form a Fund for those most affected by the contingency. Applications will be evaluated in a particular and agile way, taking into account the principles of fairness and justice.

We invite you to be very sensitive and supportive in your application, so that families who really need it can benefit. For those families that need to request support from the Fund, please visit the page https://fondoapoyo.udem.edu.mx where you will find the steps to follow. We thank you for taking into account that your request must be made before May 20, 2020.

III. Health assistance

Since this situation can also affect our UDEM Community emotionally, we have increased investment in health services, which we make available to you through the following lines:

We ask you to keep an eye on the UDEM ́s official communication channels, your institutional email, social networks and the site udem.edu.mx/Coronavirus

Dear Community, building our UDEM seal has been a continuous work throughout five decades, thanks to the vision of our founders and the actions of generations of academics, trainers and professionals. It has also required great efforts and very generous contributions from our benefactors, as well as the guidance of our board members, whose vision has allowed us to reach what UDEM is today.

This is the time to stay together and support each other despite the distance. We are convinced that if we live our values and principles, we will be able to emerge stronger from this situation. Let us ask God that this crisis will pass soon. Again, thanks to all of you for helping us fulfill our mission: to prepare human beings to inspire their best version.

Best regards,

Mario Páez
President
