Coalición por la Libertad Académica en las Américas

CAFA

Main Objectives

‏‏‎ ‎

Increase awareness and advocacy in defense of academic freedom across the Americas, aimed at developing and concretizing relevant human rights standards, both as a means of protecting higher education spaces in the western hemisphere, and modeling best practices elsewhere.

‏‏‎ ‎

Build a sustainable network of advocates and experts at institutions throughout the hemisphere, which will be well-positioned to identify crises and situations of concern and help generate locally/regionally-tailored advocacy responses in partnership with the project leads.

‏‏‎ ‎

Move forward the discourse around academic freedom by generating clear, regionally-tailored guidelines surrounding academic freedom, direct advocacy (e.g. within courts, the IACHR, and local governments) where opportunities arise, and in doing so, position Latin America as a global leader on the development of relevant human rights norms and standards.
