IN 1004 Introduction to Mechanical Engineering

Students will be able to understand the application areas of mechanical engineering, the concepts involved in it, and the types of applications that they will develop along their degree program and professional development in the three areas involved: mechanical design, materials, and production processes. They will also analyze projects and applications of the three aforementioned areas to identify the elements, problems and solution. They will become acquainted with current methodologies, computer equipment, and tools used in their professional field.

IN 1000 Quality, Productivity and Competitiveness

This course aims to outline the historical development of the concept of quality through the study of the theories of leading thinkers in this discipline and the forms and models used by successful companies. Students will acquire and apply knowledge of the concepts and the main tools of Total Quality Control in view of the existing need for a change of mentality for individuals and companies to achieve an appropriate level of competitiveness, based on quality and continuous improvement.

FM 2000 Numerical Methods

The aim of this course is for students to understand and apply the basic concepts of numerical methods in the solution of problems related to: interpolation, correlation, numerical differentiation and integration, solving systems of equations through iterative methods, and the solution of differential equations. These goals are to be achieved through the use of computer software.

FM 1235 Astronomy

The aim of this course is for students to: (1) Build a conceptual structure of the Universe by relating its various components with the magnitudes involved in the space and time in which they occur, explaining the phenomena that originated them. (2) Conceptually study the physical phenomena that help us to understand Nature. (3) Understand the motion of objects in the sky as seen from the surface of the earth. (4) Compare the different characteristics of the planets and other objects in ours solar system. (5) Study the evolution of stars and the structure and history of the Universe.
