Announcement | Undergraduate level Fall 2020 Social Service Internship

San Pedro Garza García, July 10, 2020

Dear UDEM students,

As we have previously informed you, the Fall 2020 semester is starting on Tuesday, September 1, in a hybrid format. We would like to share with you some of the distinctive features of the social service internship for this term. We should point out that these guidelines do not apply to students in the Medicine, Surgery, and Midwifery; Nursing; and Dentistry and Dental Surgery undergraduate degree programs.

I. Social service internship: Fall 2020 modalities

The social service internships will be carried out in the online and blended modalities during the Fall 2020 term in order to prevent contagion and avoid jeopardizing community health. Both are described below:

  • Online modality: These are activities carried out synchronously on a digital platform at a set time and through real-time communication.  Some activities may be asynchronous, that is to say, they are carried out in delayed time, with no communication in real time and supported by technologies to stay connected and accessible to students. Most activities will be carried out online.
  • Blended modality: These are activities that combine the online modality with in-person activities in a specific physical space. The latter type of activities is the exception, and they will require prior revision to ensure that they meet the guidelines of the health authorities. They will be reviewed and authorized by the Office of the Social Service Coordinator.

II. Students starting their social service internship in the Fall 2020 term

  • Register the Taller de Formación Social (TFS – Social Education Workshop), which will be held online, during the academic registrations period. You must register the TFS in order to start your social service internship.
  • The Fall 2020 Expo Feria de Servicio Social (Social Service Fair) will be held online. There, you will find the authorized social service internship projects so that you can choose where you want to do it. It will take place September 8-11. More details about the event and the process will be provided during the TFS (Social Education Workshop).

III. Students currently doing their social service internship and who will continue it during the Fall 2020 term

They will continue working in the Social Action Organization where they are registered. They will receive instructions on how to continue adding hours to their social service internship this term, in the authorized modality.

IV. Students who are candidates to graduate - Fall 2020

  • They will carry out the activities assigned by the Social Action Organization where they are registered to continue and complete their social service internship. This should be completed by the deadline published in the UDEM Portal, in the Fall 2020 Proceso de Titulación (Degree Certification Process) for undergraduate students. It will be the student’s responsibility to inform the UDEM Social Service Coordination of any problems that may affect the fulfillment of this requirement, for the purpose of following up on their situation.

We advise the community to follow the preventive measures that we have been communicating at the University’s official website: udem.edu.mx/Coronavirus
